Does this sound familiar?

  • Your child is struggling, and you've tried everything you can think of.
  • Your child's anxiety is beginning to affect everyday life.
  • You're constantly questioning whether you're responding the "right" way.
  • Everyday moments, getting ready for school, homework, bedtime, or leaving the house, have become exhausting.
  • You feel like you're walking on eggshells to avoid another meltdown or shutdown.
  • You and your partner don't always agree on how to respond.
  • You worry about your child's future and wonder if things will ever get easier.
  • You're doing your best, but you feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or simply exhausted.
  • You love your child deeply but feel exhausted and unsure what to do next.
  • You want to help your child become more confident and independent without damaging your relationship.

If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Parent coaching is designed to help you better understand what's happening, build confidence in your parenting, and create meaningful, lasting change for your family.

You don't have to be a perfect parent to make a meaningful difference in your child's life. Sometimes the smallest changes in how we respond can create the biggest changes in how our children grow.

What is Parent Coaching?

Parent coaching is a collaborative, practical approach that helps caregivers better understand their child's needs while developing strategies that create calmer interactions, reduce conflict, and strengthen family relationships.

Rather than focusing only on changing a child's behavior, we work together to build the confidence and skills you need to support lasting change at home.

Who is Parent Coaching for?

  • Parent coaching is for parents of children, teens and young adults with anxiety, OCD, or related disorders.
  • Caregivers seeking tools to reduce family stress and improve coping
  • Families where traditional child-focused therapy hasn’t been effective or accessible
  •  Families seeking to find calmness and improved function
  • Caregivers when children are resistant to therapy or too young to engage directly.

Why Parent Coaching Works

Small changes. Lasting impact.

Because you're with your child every day, your responses have the greatest opportunity to create change. Parent coaching provides practical, evidence-based strategies that help you respond with greater confidence, strengthen connection, reduce conflict, and support your child's growing resilience and independence.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does my child attend the sessions?

In most cases, no. Parent coaching is designed to support you as the caregiver. Because parents have the greatest influence on a child's daily environment, even small changes in how you respond can lead to meaningful changes in your child's confidence, emotional regulation, and independence.

During our sessions, we'll explore your family's unique challenges, develop practical strategies, and work together to build skills you can use in everyday situations. As you begin implementing these approaches at home, many families notice positive changes in their child's behavior, coping, and overall family interactions.

In some situations, it may be beneficial for your child or other family members to participate in a session. If I believe this would be helpful, we'll discuss it together and determine the best approach for your family's needs.

Is parent coaching right if my child refuses therapy?

Yes. Parent coaching can be an excellent option when a child or teen is unwilling, resistant, or not yet ready to participate in therapy.

Rather than waiting for your child to engage in treatment, parent coaching focuses on what you can do to support positive change at home. Together, we'll explore patterns that may be contributing to your child's challenges and develop practical, evidence-based strategies to reduce conflict, increase connection, and foster greater confidence and independence.

Many parents are surprised to discover that when they make intentional changes in how they respond, their child's behavior and emotional well-being often begin to change as well. If your child later becomes open to participating in therapy, we can discuss whether additional services would be beneficial.

Can both parents participate?

Absolutely. When possible, I encourage both parents or caregivers to participate in the coaching process. Having a shared understanding of your child's needs and a consistent approach at home can make it easier to implement new strategies and create lasting change.

That said, meaningful progress can still happen even if only one parent is able to attend sessions. We will focus on what is within your control and develop practical strategies you can begin using right away. Often, changes made by one caregiver can have a positive impact on the entire family system.

Whether you're parenting together, co-parenting, or navigating parenting on your own, coaching is tailored to meet your family's unique circumstances and goals.

Are sessions virtual?

Yes. All parent coaching sessions are conducted securely through a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, allowing you to participate from the comfort and convenience of your home.

Virtual sessions offer flexibility for busy families, eliminate travel time, and make it easier for parents and caregivers to attend together—even if they are joining from different locations.

Virtual parent coaching is provided for families throughout Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Vermont.

How long does parent coaching usually last?

Every family is unique, so the length of parent coaching depends on your goals, your child's needs, and the challenges you're navigating.

Some families find that 6–10 sessions provide the education, strategies, and support they need to begin seeing meaningful changes. Others choose to continue longer as new challenges arise or to receive ongoing guidance through different developmental stages.

Our goal is to help you build practical skills and confidence, not to keep you in coaching longer than you need. Throughout the process, we'll regularly review your progress and adjust our work together to best support your family's goals.
